Rapides Women's & Children's Hospital provides quality care for the whole family, while also offering specialized services that are tailored to women's busy lifestyles, with a focus on personal care and convenience. Available women's healthcare services include obstetrics, gynecology, mammography, bone density testing, cosmetic surgery, laparoscopic surgery, osteoporosis prevention education and breast self-examination education.
Rapides Women's and Children's Hospital is a four-story facility which is connected by a garden-like atrium to the Medical Pavilion, a four-story physician office building. Seven Labor/Delivery/Recovery suites accommodate natural births or those involving the use of anesthesia. Four surgery suites are dedicated to inpatient gynecological procedures, day surgery and cosmetic surgery.
The entire fourth floor of the hospital houses central Louisianas largest, most innovative Newborn Intensive Care Unit, a nearly three-million-dollar, 19-bed facility with a unique focus on Family-Centered Care. The NICU has a quiet family area for resting, a lounge and refreshment area, a private consultation room where families can meet with physicians, social workers or ministers, a family locker/shower area and an education room. Additionally, a breastfeeding center unique to central Louisiana is accessible for mothers to breastfeed their babies or pump breast milk for infants that need to be fed by other methods. Eight post-partum rooms give the mother and family better access to and interaction with the newborn.
Just for mothers-to-be and their families, RW&CH offers a wide range of obstetrical services, including prepared childbirth classes for expectant parents, breastfeeding preparation classes and support groups, effective parenting classes, VBAC classes for mothers who previously underwent a Cesarean-section but are now candidates for vaginal birth, infant and child CPR classes and sibling classes.
It's all part of our commitment to making childbirth a wonderful experience for mother, child and family.
Pediatric Services are housed on the third floor, offering children and their families comfortable hospital rooms and a nearby playroom.
A Pediatric Special Care Unit is also located on the medical pavilions fourth floor, offering specialty services to the seriously ill child.
Imaging Services offers women access to regular mammograms using the latest digital technology, ultrasound and bone densitometry in a private, easily accessible location.
